Newly Qualified Medical Interpreters

Kentucky welcomed thirteen additional qualified medical interpreters in the month of September. Held at Global Lex in Lexington, KY, the Kentucky Interpreter & Translator Association, through trainer Nathalie Dietrich, Certified Medical Interpreter (Spanish), thirteen individuals with proven multilingual skills met for thirty-two hours over the course of two weekends. With lessons in basic interpreting skills, culture and ethics, and anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology through the Core Medical Interpreter Training Program, students took an exam to earn the CMIT 64-hour certificate, which included 32 hours of self-paced modules.

The languages represented by this group include Spanish, French, Swahili, Haitian Creole, Arabic, Portuguese, Lingala, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, and Dari.
