Record Financial Support in 2022
Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Kentucky (TMMK) has once again supported Access Language Solutions’ work with Surgery on Sunday by awarding $6000 towards the provision of onsite and phone interpreting. ALS sends interpreters for surgery consults, post op appointments, endoscopies and more! Phone interpreting is used for pre-op health histories and general communication. Surgery on Sunday’s main program is providing outpatient surgeries one Sunday per month (January through November) to uninsured and underinsured individuals. We thank TMMK for recognizing the important work of Surgery on Sunday and their limited-English proficient patients.
ALS is pleased to announce that we have secured $7500 in grant money from the Cralle Foundation. These funds will go towards scholarships for qualified multilingual Kentucky residents who wish to pursue entry-level interpreter training. Increasing the local infrastructure of qualified interpreters benefits us all and we appreciate the support.
ALS is excited to assist in closing a gap in services when it comes to family court litigants in Kentucky. When those who are appointed an attorney for cases such as custody there is a lack of funds available to prepare the case with an interpreter when the litigant is not fluent in English. Onsite and video interpreters will be provided free of charge for sign language and onsite, phone and video interpreting will be available for spoken language needs. Thanks to a Kentucky Bar Foundation grant in the amount of $23,500 due process can be observed for some of the most vulnerable amongst us.
Lastly, ALS is one of four Kentucky-based nonprofits chosen in 2022 to be given $10,000 worth of free advertisement on the public radio station WUKY. Through January you can hear a short description of our agency and what we do. We will also have some print media on their website.
Clearly it has been a banner quarter for us. We are very grateful for this financial support to help us fulfill our mission where we contribute to positive outcomes by bringing communication gaps through high-quality, cost-effective, and innovate solutions for the limited-English speaker and the providers who serve them.
